September 2009 Following the success of the refit of R/S Eden and the re-launch this summer of M/Y Renegade from MB92, Rainsford Mann Design is fast establishing its credentials in the refit design market. Able to be reactionary and provide a fast service, RMD provides Exterior Design, Interior Design and Naval Architectural services for refit projects worldwide. "We now have a dedicated refit and conversion design department at our London studio, in order to better service the requirements of owners, captains and shipyards the world over" says Rupert Rainsford Mann. M/Y RENEGADE - launch 2009 Rainsford Mann Design (RMD) has just completed the exterior and interior work on the refit of M/Y Renegade, which was launched this September after undergoing an extensive two-year refit program at MB92 in Barcelona. Commissioned to design a completely new interior, RMD was also appointed to redesign the fly bridge deck to accommodate a new mast and equipment together with a retractable bimini. RMD also re-worked the bathing platform design, reconfigured the aft garage doors and designed new handrails and deck furniture throughout.
During the project the owner also considered an extension to the aft deck and was provided by RMD with a full 3D model showing the yacht as it would be when extended. This allowed the yard to cost the process and the owner to make his final decision. The interior was completely removed and stripped back to the bare shell and a new scheme based on the old layout devised. Using a mixture of Zebrano and limed oak wood veneer, RMD created a ‘modern classic’ scheme with clean detailing highlighted by hand-crafted finishes in glass, lacquer and leather. The main focus for the re-design of the layout was to create flexible, duel-purpose spaces.
RMD provided a design management service to the crew and client team to assist with the installation. This included value engineering - whereby RMD confirmed the outfitters' drawings and regularly attended the site to check the quality of installation and to ensure adherence to the integrity of the original design. R/S EDEN – launched 2007 We can report that R/S Eden, the classic 1930s gentleman’s yacht completely redesigned by RMD in 2007, continues to be a popular charter yacht and to serve her owners well season after season. Having carried out a complete redesign of the exterior that included adding a new clipper-shaped bow and extending the superstructure to allow for more accommodation, R/S Eden has cruised the Mediterranean extensively this season. With her new interior arrangement re-configured by RMD she now provides a classic and comfortable art deco interior for up to ten guests.
M/Y ELANYMOR – current RMD have just completed a study on the potential of converting the amidships crew accommodation on this 59m former pilot vessel into a tender garage and spa with side opening garage doors for tender deployment, together with the relocation of the crew accommodation and galley aft. Using complex 3D software to simulate the proposed concept, the client was able to review the full extent of the impact and potential of the proposed scheme to the existing interior, which is now currently undergoing a feasibility study.
FAIRLINE PHANTOM 48 – current By maintaining an-in house design department dedicated to refit projects, RMD is able to work with its customers on their smaller refit requirements. Currently RMD is working on revisions to a soft furnishing scheme including refurbishment to the headliners and flooring to aid a client’s recent purchase of a Fairline 48. The ability to take this project on quickly and create scheme options for review with in a matter of days was crucial in enabling our client to swiftly complete the purchase. |
